Prix 2014 de la meilleure thèse en génie des procédés, région Rhône Alpes

Julian BECKER, former PhD student at Lagep (thesis defended September 23, 2014), has received the 2014 award for the best PhD work in ‘Chemical Engineering’ in the Rhône-Alpes region, granted by the CODEGEPRA committee. The work concerned ‘Coupling of population balance modeling with computational fluid dynamics in turbulent emulsification systems’ and was directed by Dr Nida SHEIBAT-OTHMAN.Julian BECKER, ancien doctorant du LAGEP (thèse UCBL soutenue le 23 septembre 2014), a reçu le prix 2014 de la meilleure thèse en génie des procédés en région Rhône Alpes, attribué par le Comité de développement du génie des procédés en Rhône-Alpes (CODEGEPRA). Sujet: Coupling of population balance modeling with computational fluid dynamics in turbulent emulsification systems. Directeur de thèse: Dr Nida SHEIBAT-OTHMAN.

    Title: Implicit integral equations for modeling systems with a transport delay — Control stakes and open problems

    Abstract: Delays are well-known to be often related to transportation of material, e.g., when sensors and actuators are not co-located. In this talk, we focus on a particular class of such transport delay,
    satisfying an integral equation involving past values of the process flow rate. We illusrate the relevance of this modeling with experimental data from several fluid flow subsystems of thermal
    engines (Exhaust Gas Recirculation, after-treatment devices).

    In particular, we present experimental results carried out on an test-bench at GIPSA-lab, Grenoble, to control the mist inside an elongated tube. This test bench consists of a horizontal column
    equipped with a mist actuator located at the inlet and fans generating an air flow circulating along the tube. The control objective is to stabilize the mist at the output of the tube actuating
    on the wind speed (i.e. the fans velocities). Correspondingly, this set-up involves an integral-type transport delay (between the inlet and the output of the tube) which is also input-dependent.

    Prix – Distinctions

    Emeline LEFEBVRE received two awards , one to mark the Day Spring of the Chemical Society of France , which was held on 12
    June 2014 in Chambéry . The second prize was obtained during the 19th congress ISIC , International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization , 16-19 September 2014 in Toulouse.Emeline LEFEBVRE a reçu deux prix, un à l’occasion de la Journée de Printemps de la Société Chimique de France, qui s’est tenu le 12 juin 2014 à Chambéry. Le deuxième prix a été obtenu lors du congrès ISIC 19th, International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization, 16-19 Septembre 2014 à Toulouse.
